Silhouette, Snow and Sparkle

The Tiffany and Company shop on 5th Avenue is an entire building. If you're ever in New York City, please add this to your list of places to visit. Even if you leave without a purchase, you'll have a dreamy look on your face.

Extra dreamy if you visit at Christmas time! This year's holiday windows are all about silhouettes. The outside walls of the building boast of these decals:

The iconic blue box and a glimpse of what people are doing inside their homes:

The store windows, on the other hand, are all about a snowy evening in New York City:

Move closer and the Tiffany sparkle will reveal themselves:

And of course, more silhouettes inside the miniature homes. Isn't TADA! playing voyeur?

Have a shiny weekend!

The Yeti Story

Hello and thank you for stopping by.

Today, another store window display, this time at Saks Fifth Avenue. I like this display a lot because it's a storybook come alive. There's piped-in music and moving parts inside the windows.

This year, it tells of "The Yeti Story"

In a cold Russian workshop, a long time ago
A furry team of workers were all making snow.
One worker named YETI made beautiful flakes
But his boss only cared for avoiding mistakes.

Mama said, "Yeti, you're so very gifted
If they don't like your art, it'll be best if you drifted."
So the Yeti set off and quietly vowed,
"I'll invent splendid flakes that will make you both proud."

His travels would take him all over the earth
To learn about snow from the Arctic to Perth.
Then finally, New York! The most promised of lands!
For a snow-maker artist with magical hands.

He set up a lab, perfecting the snow
With fridges and freezers set to 14 below.
But something was missing, the snowflakes weren't right
They had to be bathed in the holiday light.

Maybe Saks was the answer! It's brighter than heaven!
Yeti raised down to catch a Manhattan-bound 7.

He squeezed his way during rush hour drama
With thousands of people (one looked like his mama).

He climbed Saks and made snow that was brilliantly pretty
And to that day, the Yeti crafts flakes for the city.

The moral? Don't give up! Be artful! Be ready!
And set your sights high -- you just might see a Yeti.

Whimsical Trees

I'm spending the next few days showing off the holiday store windows around New York City. Today, we're at Crate and Barrel

Their theme this year is "The Tree Lot" or that place where you would buy fresh Christmas trees to take home. Except that the trees here are life-size illustrations.

They're made by the talented Julia Rothman. She even designed a few items to covet that are for sale at Crate and Barrel.

Bright, cheery, dreamy.

I think this interactive spot at the store is TADA!

You and your family/friends can sit inside the cut-out car and take a picture. How fun!

Illuminated Beauties

One of my favorite holiday traditions is walking around New York City to see the decorations. Doing this instantly lifts my spirits. I hope my sharing these photos will do the same for you.

Today, we're along the vibrant 5th Avenue.

This is the tree at the Bottega Veneta store. It's simple but the lights are the decorations themselves.

Look! Bags! Among the signature items of Bottega Veneta are its leather bags with a weave pattern called intercciato. This is unique to the brand that's applied to different styles:

The Tote Bag

The Hobo Bag

Clutches

The weave pattern may not be that apparent in these photos but the texture and folds of the bag are clearly represented in these mini bag lights.

Bravo to whoever thought of this and to the guy {or gal} who's magical hands turned it into reality. Isn't this TADA!?

City Lights and Brights

Happy Monday! Now that the holidays are here, it's time to take a trip around New York City to enjoy the decorations.

First stop, the New York Public Library:

I really like how these garlands hug the light fixtures.

A very tall tree is the centerpiece of Astor Hall.

Up close, there are birds and berries...

Snow and pine cones.

More pine cones at the bottom of the tree.

The busts around the building sport a holiday look.

More twinkly garlands.

Behind the tree, a display case.

It shows off the library's collection of vintage Christmas cards. Charming and innocent.

Did you like our trip today? More tomorrow! Have a great day.

The Nutcracker Party

Did you enjoy this week's trip to the Holiday Lane at Macy's? Seeing these decorations has certainly filled me with holiday cheer.

Apart from the trees and trims, here's one of the things that stood out, I'm wondering if it's a new trend:

The Scarecrow and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz
Nutcrackers but in different disguises!

This is the more traditional looking nutcracker. Beside him is Clara with her toy from the ballet, "The Nutcracker".

Here are the newer designs:

Ballerinas

Rock Stars

Divas

Pirates

Hobbyists

Sports enthusiasts

More sports enthusiasts

Wine makers

The Three Kings

Our brave troops

Senors in sombreros

The Chef and The Sommelier

And of course, Santa Claus
A nutcracker to fit each and every personality...TADA!

Cheers to the weekend!
