From Yogurt Container to Halloween Treat Basket

Halloween is coming up and let's use this as an excuse for some crafty recycling.

Yogurt is a staple in our fridge and we like to sweeten it with honey, top it with fresh fruit and granola. But once all the yogurt is consumed, this empty tub is all that we have. Time to turn it from blah to TADA!

Several years ago, I made this Trick or Treat Bucket using a yogurt container, felt and a glue gun...TADA!

Here's another version of a Halloween basket also using the same materials...TADA!

Earlier this year, I made an Easter Bunny basket using paint and ribbon to disguise the yogurt container...TADA! I thought, "Why not use the same basket but this time for Halloween?" That way, we can use it more than once.

Several coats of gray paint will erase the bunny face. Once dry, paint it with Halloween themes like ghosts, pumpkins or bats. Or decorate the basket with stickers. Or with simple brush lettering, the Easter basket is now a Halloween treat basket...TADA!

And that is how I turned an empty yogurt container from blah to TADA!

Have a Happy Halloween!

Three Thoughts for October

Well hello October!

I know a lot of you are excited that this month has arrived, perhaps it's your birthday month or because of Halloween.

Maybe October is a month of rituals like apple picking or choosing the perfect pumpkin in the patch.

Maybe October encourages you to slow down for activities like decorating pumpkins with paint or gluing on pressed flowers.

October also means dressing up for Halloween. I really love this costume of Goldilocks with the Three Bears in her apron, easy enough to replicate using items in our closet.

Wherever your adventures take you, I hope your October will transform from blah to TADA!

Five Things for October

Autumn rites and spooky vibes...that's one way to define October energy!

Plan a trip to the farm to pick some apples or pumpkins.

Then paint the pumpkins and make them part of your Halloween decor...TADA!

How cute is this Goldilocks and the Three Bears costume for a little girl? No need to buy...you can D.I.Y.! Find something similar in your girl's closet, make an easy apron, and add three teddy bears...TADA!

Halloween candy isn't just for kids! Which one is your favorite? I'd pick Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and KitKats first...TADA!

Before October ends, I'll definitely spend time outdoors to marvel at the colorful autumn leaves. The way Mari Andrew describes fall is true poetry!

May October bring you lots of treats!

Happy Halloween

A spooky hello to all of you!

Do you celebrate Halloween? I enjoy dressing up, watching Halloween parades, and exploring the neighborhood for over-the-top Halloween decorations. One of the best places for decorations is New York City. Here, let me show you:

There is a graveyard in front of this townhouse. I bet it looks even scarier at night!

If you move your eyes upwards, you'll see these spiders and the web that they're spinning.

Dungeon-like feels for this apartment.

How would you feel seeing these frightening characters right at your front door?

The skeletons are out of the closet and hanging out on the stoop. I think these black and white pumpkins are tres chic!

Here's another classy one using a black, white and red color combination.

Day of the Dead costumes on mannequins...they look so life-like!

Surely there will be a lot of tricks...

...as well as treats!

I hope you liked this tour of Manhattan during Halloween. You know where I'll be this Tuesday night -- checking out more homes and how the owners transform them from blah to TADA!

Halloween Stickers

Hey guys!

In a previous post, I made my own stickers:

Adhesive paper, rubber stamps, and ink are all I needed to create them.

I had some adhesive paper left over and I thought seasonal stickers sounded like a good idea.

And because Halloween is just around the corner, I brought out the creepy rubber stamps.

I took out the watercolors, too, because the adhesive paper was looking very blah.

I randomly painted the adhesive paper, let it dry for several minutes, and this is what it looks like now...TADA!

Apply some ink to the rubber stamp, find a spot on the paper, and stamp away!

Hmmm...I don't have a lot of Halloween-themed rubber stamps.

Just a few spiders:

And here is an autumn stamp:

It's a pumpkin but you can, with a marker, add triangle eyes and a jagged mouth to make a Jack O' Lantern.

Now, it's time to cut the stickers.

Trim the edges for an even square.

I like the two-toned colors in the background.

Here are my handmade stickers ready to be given away...TADA!  This would be a fun activity for a play date, too.

That is how I turned some plain sticker paper from blah to TADA!

Halloween Treats

What are you guys up to this Halloween?

halloween cake pops, halloween treats
I made a few cake pops! Inside, they're devil food's cake -- is there a more evil flavor fit for Halloween?

halloween cake pops, halloween treats, skull cake toppers
Then I coated them with white chocolate, very imperfect, to mimic a skull.

Then I decorated the cake pops with these paper toppers. TADA!

May you all have a fun Halloween!

Halloween Decorations

I'll be honest, I'm not one to decorate my apartment for Halloween. But I will wear a witch's hat when giving out candy! That's how I roll.

But after seeing these simple ways to add a spooky vibe, Halloween decorating may just be on my agenda:

A door full of creepy crawlies is easy to assemble with plastic spiders from the dollar store.

Make a spider's web out of black electrical tape. Do this on a door, window, or wall.

Enjoy your Halloween preparations!

Happy Halloween!

Hello there! I'll be busy handing out candy and checking out fun costumes so we'll skip the crafting today. But here's something TADA! I have to share with you:

I spotted this at Whole Foods. It's a haunted house made out of recycled cardboard boxes!

I just love the shingle style exterior.

The details of the roof, walls and windows are exquisite.

I envy the ghost who lives here.

Have a spook-tacular Halloween, everyone!
