From Yogurt Container to Halloween Treat Basket

Halloween is coming up and let's use this as an excuse for some crafty recycling.

Yogurt is a staple in our fridge and we like to sweeten it with honey, top it with fresh fruit and granola. But once all the yogurt is consumed, this empty tub is all that we have. Time to turn it from blah to TADA!

Several years ago, I made this Trick or Treat Bucket using a yogurt container, felt and a glue gun...TADA!

Here's another version of a Halloween basket also using the same materials...TADA!

Earlier this year, I made an Easter Bunny basket using paint and ribbon to disguise the yogurt container...TADA! I thought, "Why not use the same basket but this time for Halloween?" That way, we can use it more than once.

Several coats of gray paint will erase the bunny face. Once dry, paint it with Halloween themes like ghosts, pumpkins or bats. Or decorate the basket with stickers. Or with simple brush lettering, the Easter basket is now a Halloween treat basket...TADA!

And that is how I turned an empty yogurt container from blah to TADA!

Have a Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween

A spooky hello to all of you!

Do you celebrate Halloween? I enjoy dressing up, watching Halloween parades, and exploring the neighborhood for over-the-top Halloween decorations. One of the best places for decorations is New York City. Here, let me show you:

There is a graveyard in front of this townhouse. I bet it looks even scarier at night!

If you move your eyes upwards, you'll see these spiders and the web that they're spinning.

Dungeon-like feels for this apartment.

How would you feel seeing these frightening characters right at your front door?

The skeletons are out of the closet and hanging out on the stoop. I think these black and white pumpkins are tres chic!

Here's another classy one using a black, white and red color combination.

Day of the Dead costumes on mannequins...they look so life-like!

Surely there will be a lot of tricks...

...as well as treats!

I hope you liked this tour of Manhattan during Halloween. You know where I'll be this Tuesday night -- checking out more homes and how the owners transform them from blah to TADA!

Halloween Stickers

Hey guys!

In a previous post, I made my own stickers:

Adhesive paper, rubber stamps, and ink are all I needed to create them.

I had some adhesive paper left over and I thought seasonal stickers sounded like a good idea.

And because Halloween is just around the corner, I brought out the creepy rubber stamps.

I took out the watercolors, too, because the adhesive paper was looking very blah.

I randomly painted the adhesive paper, let it dry for several minutes, and this is what it looks like now...TADA!

Apply some ink to the rubber stamp, find a spot on the paper, and stamp away!

Hmmm...I don't have a lot of Halloween-themed rubber stamps.

Just a few spiders:

And here is an autumn stamp:

It's a pumpkin but you can, with a marker, add triangle eyes and a jagged mouth to make a Jack O' Lantern.

Now, it's time to cut the stickers.

Trim the edges for an even square.

I like the two-toned colors in the background.

Here are my handmade stickers ready to be given away...TADA!  This would be a fun activity for a play date, too.

That is how I turned some plain sticker paper from blah to TADA!

Halloween Gift Bags

Hello guys! Because it's the season of critters and candy, a Halloween craft is but appropriate.

It's a kid-friendly one where they can stamp, stamp, stamp to their heart's content.

All we need are a paper bag (saved from a shopping trip), Halloween-themed craft stamps, and a black ink pad.

Just press the image all over the bag and add some fancy lettering (you can put the child's name, too).

Use this bag to collect candy on Halloween or fill it with treats to give away...TADA!

Here's one the I made last year, or this one and this one from a few years back.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween Treats

What are you guys up to this Halloween?

halloween cake pops, halloween treats
I made a few cake pops! Inside, they're devil food's cake -- is there a more evil flavor fit for Halloween?

Then I coated them with white chocolate, very imperfect, to mimic a skull.

Then I decorated the cake pops with these paper toppers. TADA!

May you all have a fun Halloween!

Ideas for Halloween

Good to see you today! This week, let's experiment with a different kind of craft material.

Have you ever heard of flocking powder? I can best describe it as microscopic glitter but instead of a sparkly look, it gives a surface a velvety finish.

Since Halloween is coming up, let's see how we can use flocking powder to dress up some crafts.

Let's turn these blah book pages into TADA!

Fold the book pages into pouches and secure the edges with glue.

Using all purpose glue, draw creepy-crawlies on the pouch.

Make sure to cover your work space with newspaper/scrap paper.  Working quickly, shower the drawing with a generous amount of flocking powder.

Tap out the excess. If there are "bald spots", add more flocking powder.  The excess powder can be poured back into the container.

I'm not sure if you can see it here, but the spider looks and feels like velvet. The flocking powder adds not only texture, but dimension as well. The spider looks embossed!

Fill the pouches with tricks and treats {fold the top and secure with a sticker or tape} and they're ready to be given away on Halloween. TADA!

Jar-ry, Jar-ry Night

Eeeep! It's Halloween tomorrow! If you celebrate it, are you ready? I have the treats but no decorations. Time to turn some blah into TADA!

If you have jars and vases gathering dust in the cupboard under the sink, now's a good time to take them out.
